What is an American Cockroach?
American cockroaches are bigger in size than their look a likes the German cockroach. Typically 1 – 2 inches in length the American cockroach is a light brown color with a yellowish tint to its head resembling a halo. American cockroaches have wings and although uncommon, the are known to fly at times. These cockroaches move suddenly and quickly when disrupted and are most commonly seen at night as they prefer the dark.
Female cockroaches will lay their eggs in dark areas that provide shelter and a nearby food source. After hatching, American cockroaches can live for over two years and are able to survive without nourishment for lengthy periods of time.
