What is a House Spider?
House spiders are amongst the most common types of harmless spiders. They are not prone to bite and coexist indoors with humans quite well. There are many types of house spiders and they can be recognized by the dark rings on their legs and patterned abdomens.
House spiders do not have preferred season and can be found anytime of year. They will create webs in environments they find to be the most safe, typically dark enclosed areas both indoor and outdoor. Male and female house spiders will share a web during mating. The females will yield multiple egg sacs each year which can hold anywhere from 100-400 spiders each.
Why do I have House Spiders?
House spiders feed on other small insects and are not typically a threat to humans. Though they are not deemed harmful their presence is typically unwelcomed. House spiders are not particular to their original web and will create multiple webs throughout homes. This can cause homeowners to be alerted to a spider threat that is not quite as sever as may be depicted.
House spider’s webs are commonly found attached to baseboards, wall corners, basements and crawl spaces. They prefer dark areas that provide shelter and some have a preference for moist areas as well. While they can be found outside most house spiders will live their entire life indoors.
How do I get rid of House Spiders?
House spiders are not typically a cause for immediate concern. Even well kept clean homes will have the occasional house spider. In order to help deter an abundance of house spiders, it is recommended to keep clutter at bay reducing their available hiding locations as well as removing webs when they are found.
