What is a Cricket?
Crickets are small jumping insects typically found outside in dampened areas such as lawns, fields, and gardens. They are able to find their way indoors when openings are accessible. Crickets prefer warm temperatures and are most active in the summer.
Crickets are known for their unique chirping sound. Males create this noise by rubbing their wings together in order to attract a mate or to alert others to potential danger. Crickets can reproduce quickly as females are able to lay up to 100 eggs weekly for up to 2 months.
Why do I have Crickets?
Crickets are attracted to warm climates and moisture. They thrive in regularly watered lawns where they can find plentiful food. When outdoors crickets will feed on plant material, decaying leaves, and other insects. Crickets can find their way indoors through access points and will feed on fabric materials such as cotton, silk, and leather.
Crickets will thrive indoors as well as outdoors. Through the winter they will be attracted to the warmth of fire places, heaters, and other heat producing sources. They area able to live comfortably indoors for their entire lives if not prevented.
How do I get rid of Crickets?
Reducing areas that hold moisture can help prevent crickets from being attracted to your property. Keep grass regularly mowed and do not over saturate you lawn, mulch beds, or garden areas. Reducing light fixtures around the property can also aid in preventing crickets. Ensure possibly entry points are properly sealed to prevent crickets from coming inside.
If there is a large cricket population it may be necessary to contact your local pest control specialists to aid in reducing their population and setting up prevention to keep them from coming indoors. Click Here for Details on our General Pest & Outdoor Plan.
