What is a Springtail?
Springtails are small jumping insects that are attracted to moist locations with plentiful water sources. Springtails main food sources are algae and other organic decaying materials. They prefer cooler temperatures and have even been found to survive in the snow.
Springtails are not typically found in large numbers unless there is a water source providing the population with nutrients to thrive. They are not typically considered nuisance insects however, if their population is large they can begin to cause problems.
Why do I have Springtails?
When there is a large number of springtails present it is usually indictive of a moisture issue. Springtails are highly attracted to moisture as it is a breading ground for their food sources. Springtails can often be found near pipe leaks, in crawl spaces with high moisture, and in pool drains.
How do I get rid of Springtails?
Proper moisture control will help prevent springtails. They are not able to survive in dry conditions therefore, resolving moisture issues will help regulate springtail populations.
In cases of springtail infestations it is wise to partner with a pest control specialist who can inspect the home for potential moisture issues and provide treatment for springtails. Click Here for Details on our General Pest Control Plan
