What is a Clover Mite?
Clover mites are tiny insects no bigger than a pin head. They are often a rusty red color, however there are some that appear more olive green. When crushed clover mites leave a red stain that is difficult to remove.
Clover mites prefer cooler temperatures and will hibernate during the warm summer months. When temperatures are around 69 degrees F they will begin to develop and leave their eggs in cracks and crevasses. It only takes about one month for a clover mite to fully develop. There are no male clover mites and females reproduce on their own.
Why do I have Clover Mites?
Clover mites feed on vegetation such as grasses, weeds, and flowers. Clover mites typically remain outside, however they are known to enter homes when outside temperatures are no longer suitable for them. Cracks around windows and doors are common areas in which they gain access to a home. Clover mites will not reproduce in doors and will quickly pass from dehydration inside.
How do I get rid of Clover Mites?
The best way to prevent clover mites from entering your home is to keep foliage trimmed back from the home’s exterior and ensure cracks are properly sealed. As they are known to cause staining it is recommended to use a vacuum to remove clover mites from indoors.
Controlling clover mites is relatively easy and insecticides are a quick and easy way to effectively keep them from entering your home. Click Here for Details on our General Pest & Outdoor Plan.
