When you should use Pest Control

In this day and age of DIY, the question is, just because you can do something yourself does it mean you should? You can find a plethora of YouTube videos on how to change your car oil, or hundreds of TikToks about cleaning your dryer vents. I’ve watched a lot of videos on historical clothing recreation, but I shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near a sewing machine. So when should you call in a professional? The same question applies to pest control.

Sure, it seems simple enough. You see the bugs, you kill the bugs. All you need is a little Google confidence and you should be good to go, right? But can Google help you find the source of your ant problem, or tell you why the fire ants in your yard won’t go away? Maybe you’re dealing with fleas inside and the “bombs” don’t work. Or you just don’t like bugs at all and you don’t want to deal with them. That’s the time to call a professional Pest Control Operator.

One of the first things to consider is that licensed pest professionals will have access to products and equipment that you won’t. Pest Control is an industry that is highly regulated. Many of the products you would need to specifically treat for a pest are only available from distributors for purchase with an operators license. Places like Home Depot or Lowe’s will have pest products available for purchase, and they may work, to a certain extent, but they may not have the active ingredient that works best. We’ll talk about the products and active ingredients we use and recommend in a separate post a little bit later.

Secondly, is that Google knowledge is no replacement for field experience. If you’re constantly seeing ants in your kitchen or Palmetto bugs upstairs, an experienced professional will know where to look for the source of the problem, rather than treating the symptom. Do you really want to get into your attic to look for Smoky Brown roaches? Do you want to be outside trying to track the trail of ants back to the colony? Probably not. Your time is better spent, so it makes sense to call in a professional to take care of that quickly.

The third reason to choose a pest control professional is for the education. We strive to always educate our customers on what services we provide, how we provide them, and what to expect from the service. Very rarely will we tell you to expect immediate and permanent results. We like to say that we control the pests, we don’t eradicate them. We’ll help to control the mosquito population in your yard, but we can’t guarantee that you’ll never see one since we aren’t treating your neighbors, and you don’t live in a bubble. Most products take time to work, given the habits of most pests. You’ll generally see a few more after we’ve been out to treat and then over the next few days you’ll see the population drop off. We know this because we have industry experience. But if you’re simply reading the directions on the bottle, you might think that ants should be gone overnight, or that the fleas should be gone as soon as you use the fogging bottle you got at DIY Pest Control. (Bombs simply cause the pests to scatter, which is why they seem to work for a hot minute, and then you see another surge of fleas a day later.)

Most pest control companies are offering a lot of the same services, with a lot of the same products, using a lot of the same treatment methods. So when you do choose a company, make sure it’s one that is transparent with their services, pricing, and is local. PinPoint Pest Solutions is locally owned and operated and has over 20 years of combined pest control experience. We know that Woodruff Rd. is the worst place to be at 12pm on any day of the week. We know that we only get 2 weeks of Fall between Summer and Winter, and we know that the construction on 85 around Gaffney will never be finished. And we care. We want to provide the best level of service with the best pricing and customer service that we can. And we do.
